The impressive model of the AA Mobile Traffic Control Unit 'Jumbo' was based on the articulated trucks used by the British Automobile Association as their control centres when managing traffic at large events.
The Seddon cab, which Budgie made use of for several of their later models, was painted in the bright yellow colours of the AA with black trim on the grille and silver trim on the headlights. 'AA' decals were attached to both side doors. The black base was rivetted in place and had 'Seddon Diesel' cast on it.
When the AA Mobile Traffic Control Unit 'Jumbo' first appeared the trailer had roof windows in front of the black catwalk (which is a separate casting) but due perhaps to casting problems these were later closed. Black trim was put on the trailer in the form of a 'flash' on each side and small dabs on the rear steps. 'AA' decals were attached on all four sides and 'Automobile Association' decals placed beneath the side windows. The black trailer base included the words 'A Budgie Toy' and remained the same on both types of trailer.
Wheels were large diameter black painted metal with heavy-treaded tyres to start with and were always the same for cab and trailer. Later these were replaced by small diameter wheels when Budgie switched to using knobbly tyres. Eventually silver plastic wheels with knobbly tyres were fitted before the model was discontinued.
The 'Jumbo' box was unusual in that it carried the 'AA' logo on both faces and on the end-flaps. The first boxes had no numbers (A1) but small numbers were soon added to each picture face (A2). Despite the model being on sale until 1964, there was no box upgrade during the Guiterman ownership.
The 'Jumbo' artic was quite an expensive toy in its day but it must have been popular as it is not too hard to find.
