Britains Lilliput World Vehicle Series
LB/550 Speed Cop
Issued 1951-1960 Length 30mm 'OO/HO' scale (1:76)
Third of the Lilliput Motorcycles was a Police Speed Cop. It seems to have started life as part of a planned combined group of Motorcycle models with the number 'LV/607' but this must have been abandoned because it had its own number when issued.
The single casting of the bike and rider was identical to the other Motorcycles. The unpainted metal wheels initially had nail-head & crimped axles but later a push-fit arrangement was used with small side lugs being added to the casting of each wheel.
Of the three Motorcycles, the Speed Cop colours had the fewest variations. The bike was black with a red fuel tank, and with silver trim added to the headlight, exhausts and some of the engine. Like the other motorcycles, a white patch addition was put on the tip of the rear mudguard.
The rider had a dark-blue uniform and cap, brown boots and gloves, and white gauntlets. The face was finished with pale-tan or cream trim.
Sold unboxed from Trade packs like the two dozen (24) pack illustrated, and being included in the L/11 Railway Display Set, the Speed Cop must have been popular because it is the most easily found of the three Lilliput Motorcycles.
