Britains Lilliput Vehicle Series
LV/619 Post Office Royal Mail Van
Issued 1956-1960 Length 75mm 'OO/HO' scale (1:76)
The last of the three Lilliput Fordson Thames vans was painted in Royal Mail livery. It was identical in construction to the earlier models (see LV/617 Ambulance for more details).
There were two variations of the Royal Mail Van, one with a cream cab and chassis, one with a black cab and chassis (which was the correct colour of large Post Office vans in the early 1950's). Otherwise, the two variations were the same with bright red bodies, black base and black driver.
On the sides of the body 'Royal Mail' decals were attached and on the front silver trim was added to the headlights and bumper. The driver inside had pink or pale-tan face trim.
The wheels were the standard Lilliput red plastic hubs with black tyres with 'Britains Ltd' and 'England' embossed on each side.
The Royal Mail Van was sold in the usual open fronted box with internal diorama to which the model was secured. Model details were on one of the end-flaps.
The Post Van is not hard to find in the black cab variation but the cream cab is rare, as also is the box.
