As part of the Farm Equipment group of models in the Qualitoys range, Benbros developed the Tractor with Cab and Shovel Bucket as a development of the Ferguson Tractor including driver using the type 2 casting of the tractor with unpainted wheels, treaded at the rear and smooth at the front.

In order to get lift for the shovel, a high mounting of the lift arms was needed so it was a natural idea to turn this into a cab although it was a fairly primitive one! However, it was a clever design because the entire unit was mounted on the axles inside the four wheels. This meant that it could be constructed separately. As with earlier tractor models, there was no id.

There were two lifting systems for raising the shovel bucket. The first models had a spindle in front of the driver from which a short length of string ran down to the top of the bucket. By turning the spindle handle and winding the string, the shovel could be raised and lowered but there was no rachet to hold the shovel up so it had limited play value. Later the string was abandoned and the spindle was re-cast with a connecting arm to the lifting frame making a simpler and stronger system.

Benbros painted the Tractor with Shovel models on the upper side only so that the insides of the shovel and cab, and the underneath of the tractor were all left unpainted. The first variations with string-lifts were either yellow or dark-green and these colours continued when Benbros changed the lift mechanism to the lever-lift. Later red and mid-green variations were added. Silver trim was applied to the tractor grille and steering wheel. The female driver, which was the same casting as on the Ferguson Tractor, was green with brown hat in the yellow models, and dark-brown in the green and red ones. Both had pink trim to face and hands.

Any box which Benbros produced for the Tractor with Shovel would have been quite tall but nothing is known about it and possibly none were made, so the model was most likely sold unboxed.  

The Tractor with Cab & Shovel Bucket is a rare model to find in good condition, particularly the early string-lift variations but they do turn up occaisionally. Dark-green seems to have been the more common colour.
